We are committed to operating in the forests and waterways of the Tongass National Forest as sustainably as we can. For us, this means reducing/eliminating waste and single-use plastics, maintaining our gear and equipment to get the most use out of it we can, and operating with minimal impact on the flora and fauna of our area. The latter includes respecting all Forest Service guidelines when interacting with wildlife (particularly at the Anan Bear & Wildlife Observatory), utilizing boardwalks to minimize our impact on the forest floor and the slow-to-recover muskeg marshes, and keeping a safe distance from all land and marine mammals to avoid altering their natural behavior.
We also believe that sustainability includes creating strong, long-lasting relationships within our community. We hire our guides locally whenever possible, facilitate community events, donate as much as we can to local organizations, and have developed many partnerships with other small businesses over the years. This is our commitment to enriching our island and building our local economy in an ethical way.
